We have several programs coming up this spring and summer which we hope you find interesting. Please note the different locations of the various programs. March 1, 2011 7 pm Douglas County and D. C. Oakes
LaVonne Perkins will speak about the life of Daniel Chesman Oakes, a pioneer who came to Colorado in 1858 and wrote the Pikes Peak Guide and Journal which brought thousands of gold seekers to this state. Mr. Oakes operated the first saw mill in the territory just south of Roxborough near present day Castle Pines. Join us to learn more about very early days of Douglas County and Colorado. Ms. Perkins is the author of D. C. Oakes, Family, Friends and Foes which will be available for signing after the program. Location - West Metro Fire House.
April 18 7 pm Colorado and Southern Railroad
Tom Klinger will share his knowledge of the Denver South Park and Pacific Railroad which later became the Colorado and Southern Railroad. A part of this line traversed the South Platte Canyon and a spur line known as the "Silica Branch" came out to Roxborough. Come and learn about the vital role railroads played in the growth of our area. Mr. Klinger and his wife Denise, have authored of two books; C &S Highline Memories and Then Some and C & S Platte Canyon Memories and Then Some which will be available for signing after the program. Location - Roxborough Foundation Community Room.
May 10, 2011 1 pm The Life and Times of Henry Persse - Program and Hike
Join Roxborough State Park and the Roxborough Area Historical Society in celebrating Colorado Historic Preservation Month. Susie Trumble will present a program on the life of Henry Persse followed by a hike on the Fountain Valley Trail to Mr. Persse's home among the red rocks. Location - Roxborough State Park Visitor Center. A state park's pass is required on all vehicles entering the park.
Friday, June 17, 2011 and Saturday, June 18, 2011 Field Trip to Mountain Jeanie's Trail's End
Save the dates, we will offer this trip on both Friday and Saturday. More information will be available shortly. This trip will require reservations as space is limited and preference will be given to Roxborough Area Historical Society members.
